My work explores the predetermined gender and style boundaries of garments and their connotations through conceptual and material contrast. The work looks to historical periods and is reimagined through contemporary shapes and silhouettes. Stiff, utilitarian fabrics and chrome spikes are often combined with softer, lightweight sheer fabrics layered within the final design. Material choices challenge and bridge the gaps of gender, material, style, and societal boundaries to demonstrate how close these concepts are to one another. The drama is in the details-stitching, ruffles, tucks, quilting, and hardware.
